Revisiting My Inquiry

In my internship classroom, my CT and I have noticed that the student learning is mostly being done the best when the students are in a group setting. The students seem to really listen to their peers and sometimes they understand a concept better when they talk to one another about what they’re learning. Also, if my CT and I teach lessons with positive attitudes then the students seem more interested in the topics/lessons. Also, something else that interests me about student learning is that if we give the students enough think time then the students seem to be more confident in answering questions. This connects to my Teaching Platform because I said that there should be good instructor interactions with the students and when they see us be positive and encourage them their student learning becomes stronger. Also, I said in my Teaching Platform that there should be good time management and when we give the students enough think time then the students will be able to answers those questions more accurately and in a timely manner.
Some teaching strategies that I'm already working on with my CT this semester is collaboration and demonstration. We are always letting the students collaborate with one another and this brings on classroom discussions. Then a lot in Science there is demonstration being done. For example, my CT wanted to show that rocks come in all different shapes and sizes and she pulled out a box of rocks and demonstrated by showing examples of different types of rocks and then I passed them around to each group of students so they could see and feel them.
A connection that I see between my learning, student learning, and course assignments is that there is a hidden curriculum for all of them. I don’t just learn from the textbooks and my assignments are not just straight out of the textbooks. I learn from working with my classmates and talking in classroom discussions and the same goes for my internship students. Also, another connection I see between my learning, student learning, and course assignments is that everything that is taught and learned from those three things comes back around and connects to new ideas and lessons.
When it regards to planning instruction to meet student learning needs I hope to learn more about how to balance out the lessons so that it fits for all my students’ learning needs. Each student learns at a different pace but they all need to be taught the same things but I need to learn how to really be able to balance a lesson out and know the different strategies other teachers use so that all the students are learning and understanding. And finally, my current wondering is: What happens when I work more one-on-one with a below level student that seems to not be progressing in their education?
