Walking into my first day as an intern I was really excited and wanted to jump right in. When I walked into the class my Collaborating Teacher stopped what she was doing in her class and said hello to me. I introduced myself to her and asked her what she expects from me. I wanted to know right away how she ran her class and what she wanted me to do. Before I introduced myself to the students my CT told them that I would be there every Thursday and to treat me the same way they treat her. My CT pointed to the rules on the wall and reminded them how they follow the rules for her and so they should do the same for me. When I introduced myself I noticed that all the students were paying attention to me and were very excited for me to be there. I noticed before that my CT was talking to them to the side of the class where the projector screen was so I made sure I stood there while introducing myself. Was that the focus point of the room? Is that where my CT did most of her teaching? I was going to have to find all that out. I then told them why I was in their classroom and my name. I then wrote my name on the board in the front of the class so they could remember it. I also got to pick up on the students' names really fast. I had to walk around and make a seating chart and that made me learn their names too. By the end of the day I knew all the students' names and they were very comfortable with me being there. So the first day of my internship went great and I really got to learn things about the class.
